“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
Luke 6:41 NIV
In today’s modern society it’s hard to say that we don’t compare. Especially because of social media our lives are in constant comparison. Subconsciously we may look at each other’s pages and profiles wanting more “likes” or “friends.” Many of us don’t like to admit this is true, I know I wouldn’t.. but then again have you ever looked at someone’s page and thought, “I wish my life was more like theirs?” Or “I’m glad my life is not like theirs?” Sounds harsh I know. I think it’s easier to point out other people’s accomplishments or flaws than to look at ourselves and accept our own shortcomings (or strengths).Well this post is about judgement, it’s definitely easier to look at someone who is in constant sin and judge them, than look at your own and fix your own. But judgement never helps another person, and it doesn’t help you either. Am I better than you? Or are you better than me? I guess the question would be in what way? But nevertheless, the same answer holds true… you could be better than me in some ways, and I could be better than you in other ways… just like they are better than you and you are better than them…
The truth is that no one is better than the other. The only perfect one was Jesus. The “likes” or “friends” are fleeting and just hold for a short period of time, but God’s perfection and love for us is eternal. So next time you want to judge someone else or yourself, remember to look at your own flaws and remember how God loves those parts of you too, just like He loves that girl or dude you’re trying to judge.
Have a blessed week.
And please try not to judge anyone. Everyone is fighting or has fought a battle you know nothing about. (-some quote somewhere)
