When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,Nor will the flame burn you.
Isaiah 43:2

Think of a time when you were facing something really hard. How did it feel? Or maybe you are in that place in your life right now… Life is filled with challenges and during those times it’s easy to want to give up, and it can feel like God is very far from near. I remember some of my darkest moments have been spent in nature where I was sitting looking at the sky thinking God could not hear, did not listen, or cared about my problems. Have you ever felt like that? So close, but so far away? In Psalm 34:18 it says, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” For me, I remember facing these difficult things and dark times feeling like God didn’t care… later on I learned that even when I don’t feel Him, He is always with me. In those dark times, He was there. In the times when I have felt that God is nowhere to be found and does not care about whatever I’m going through; He’s still there. How do I know that? Was it because I saw a sign in the sky? Or an angel came up to me and spoke to me in a dream? Was it because I had that overwhelming sense of peace that told me everything was going to be okay? Nope. It’s because that’s what His word says. In Isaiah 43:2 God is speaking to Isreal, His chosen people, about how through the rivers, we will not drown, through the fire we will not be burned. Can you imagine that? I’m not saying that I’d go running into any rivers or fires, but it does give me some hope during my hardest times to remember God’s promises for me. Through the fire, I will not be burned. So now when I am facing a battle, whatever it is, as much heat as I might feel because of that trial, I know that because I’m His, and He is faithful, I will not be burned. So if you’re facing anything extremely difficult right now, I encourage you to first take a deep breath, make time for yourself to rest, and more than anything, trust and pray. God is with you and you will not be burned.
Have a blessed week.
