Who to trust?

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

Psalm 20:7-8
Carretera Masaya, Nicaragua 2021

So the picture above was taken in the middle of the street in one of the busiest roads, not just in Nicaragua, but probably in Central America. It connects from the capital, Managua, to another major city, Granada. It’s here where my dad’s truck broke down out of no where. We got out of the car as he and our uncle checked it out. My dad knows how to take care of his cars really well and he’s kind of a low key environmentalist who would rather preserve the life of an old car than dump it into a landfill. I admire him for that, but I could never take care of my car like he does his. In the middle of this road as we’re trying to figure out a solution; my uncle calls his mechanic friend who says it would take him about 2 hours to pick us up and would charge us 3,500 cordobas just for the pick up which is about 100 dollars. Well in the middle of this stressful moment I say a quiet prayer. I don’t tell my sister, or my dad, I just say a silent prayer to myself asking God to help us. I wasn’t specific with my prayer either, and I wasn’t sure how He would answer, I just hoped that He would. Right as my sister and I are trying to make light of the situation, we’re laughing at my annoyed dad and taking pictures of the scenery, a man pulls up and asks us if we needed help. Turns out this man was a mechanic… I was shocked, almost not surprised, but still I stayed quiet. From my perspective his car didn’t seem strong enough to pull my dad’s truck but actually it worked! He was kind enough to take us to my parent’s house which was about a 40 min drive. I kept my prayer to myself, but on the inside I had this overwhelming peace, certainty, and calmness that God had arranged that meeting and was with us. My dad even called the man who picked us up “an angel.” In the end we were only on that road for probably 20 mins, but I have no doubt that my quiet prayer sent that man to help us. In Psalm 20:7-8 David says how, “some trust in chariots and horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord, they are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.” Okay so maybe we literally didn’t have any chariots or horses that day, but we did have the name of the Lord. I love how David was able to beat Goliath not because he was clever, but because He trusted in God. In this verse David is speaking about how important, simple, yet powerful it is to believe and have faith in the Lord’s name. He says “we rise up and stand firm” so not only are we suppose to use God’s name during our battles (prayer) but we’re also called to rise up and stand firm (that would be our faith and confidence). In our everyday lives we all have challenges. Sometimes it’s because we’re watching our friends or a family member suffer from something. Sometimes it’s because we ourselves are going through something really tough that can take years to overcome, and sometimes they just take moments to smooth over, but it’s beautiful to know that you always have God to lean on and ask for help. So I’m here to encourage you, that no matter what you’re going through today, big or small issues, ask God to help you, he may use the experience to grow you, or he may blow your mind with the miracles that He delivers. You just gotta trust Him.

Have a blessed week.

Have faith and trust in the Lord.
