I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. So be sure to give this land to Israel as a special possession, just as I have commanded you.”
Joshua 13:6

In the book of Joshua, the Lord is guiding the Israelites from escaping slavery in Egypt and leading them into their promised land. After Moses passes away, Joshua is spoken to by God to settle into the promise land and expand Israel. In the verse, Joshua 13:6, God says “I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. So be sure to give this land to Israel as a special possession, just as I have commanded you.” Before entering this land that the Lord was promising the Israelites, the Israelites experienced doubt in what is known as “the wilderness” and there were times when they would be frustrated with the Lord and worshipped other gods. Still the Lord was faithful and had a bigger picture planned that the Israelites could not see or sense during that time. After Moses dies, Joshua is chosen as a leader. Joshua is known for being brave since he was willing to walk into the promise land, but in my perspective I believe he could only get his strength and courage by having faith that God was faithful to complete what He had started. Which brings me back to this scripture, God is saying that He himself will drive out these people ahead of Israel.
There are times when I myself like the Israelites may also doubt God or question His faithfulness during my “wilderness”. It can be difficult to hang on to hope or a promise that feels like is taking too long and possibly may not happen. Doubting, lacking faith, or feeling anxious are pretty normal human emotions, but this scripture reminds me that even though myself like the Israelites cannot see further than what is in front of me, I must have faith and remember that the Lord is always going ahead of me to take care of things that I can’t. As long I’m faithful to remember Him and thank Him for who He is, I can rest that He has already taken care of any little doubts or worries that might try to fester in my brain. He has already walked ahead of me in my wilderness just like He did the Israelites and is taking care of what needs to be taken cared of.
It’s relieving to know that the one true God cares and will always have my back, as He has yours. God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ.
