Striving and Faith

…I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

Philippians 3:9

Apostle Paul is the famous Apostle who wrote many books in the New Testament. Many Christians, myself included, quote his scriptures all the time. He had such a strong influence over early Christianity and still does today. In this scripture Paul is talking about how nothing that he does will ever make himself right enough. He says that in order to make ourselves right with God we must have faith. I know I’ve written about this a few times, but I think it’s important and it is something we all need a refresher about.

In this day and age I have realized that there is a lot of struggle with striving towards anything. Whether we are striving in school, towards a career, in our families, or personal goals, our society seems to be value striving a lot. Yet, what Paul is saying here is that we don’t have to strive for righteousness instead we called to have faith.

I may never fully understand God or the way he works, but I do know that as I learn more about Him, He is a good creator. To live on this planet and not feel like you have a purpose (whether you are a Christian or not) is pretty difficult. Life can feel empty all around you, but to know that you were created and it was for a reason just makes getting up each day a little more easier.

Faith, is the reason why we should be waking up every day and trying our best to heal ourselves, and to love and respect others. Yes we will fall short, we all do, but it’s amazing how even this Apostle tells his early Christian followers of Christ that it is not through righteousness (striving) and “clean living” that we receive the gift of salvation, just something kinda of simple, yet kind of complicated to grasp. Faith.

I pray that you would receive faith and grace today to understand that we are not made right with God by what we do, but rather whose we are.

Have a great and blessed week ahead of you.

God bless you.
