Defeating Depression

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

What do you think of when you hear the word “depression”? In my experience when someone says they’re depressed it’s a jumping to conclusions and you either want to jump in and save the person, or slowly walk away… Most people don’t like hearing that word because it’s too much. I think in our current society it’s hard to accept difficult feelings and emotions that humans go through just because we’re afraid of being real. I mean honestly, if someone you know is depressed how would you react to it? I’d hope that you’d want to lean in and help that person, but many times we back away because of fear that maybe we’ll be depressed to. I’m a person who has suffered from depression and let me tell you, it’s no joke. It is a mental illness and just like any other illness it can be treated. You can either do the medication and therapy route, or having a healthy lifestyle with exercise and a good diet to ease the feelings of depression. Also spending regular time with those you love and positive people help a ton! For me it was all of the above that has helped me overcome a lot of the depression that I’ve experienced. There are many reasons why people get depressed too. It can be hereditary, the environment you’re in, going through a rough patch spiritually, financially, emotionally, or not healing from the past. It’s also prevalent in both genders, so just remember guys also feel it too. Whatever the reasons for the depression maybe…your life is important.

Since I’ve become a Christian God has helped me understand that although life is hard and there are many things we cannot control, our lives do matter to Him. The enemy would just love if we gave up and gave into the darkness, but God’s love is so much greater and stronger than that. So during those hard times, nights, days, hours, seasons, remember that you can get through this! You don’t have to be ashamed of being depressed, it is normal and a lot of people go through it more than we’d like to admit. Reach out to a friend or a loved one you trust.

Also, if you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255.

You can also reach out to me on my “About Me” page. I’d love to help in any way I can!

If you know someone who is depressed, please don’t judge and be compassionate towards them, and if you are depressed just remember that our brain makes us feel those negative feelings, but our brain can also make us feel feelings or hope, joy, peace, and strength. Also always remember God is crazyyy about you and wants you to live for His glory!

Dear God,

I’m praying for everyone reading this right now, and I’m asking if there is anything that they may be feeling depressed about that you would lift their spirits, give them hope, joy, strength and peace to continue to live, and that you may be their source of joy always, for your glory.

In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

God bless you all! Have a blessed week 🙂
