36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40 NLT
I’m not always nice. Yet in the bible God’s command is ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’ I’ve always been told how nice I am, but I’ve also been told that I’m sometimes I’m not that nice. There are times I have found myself feeling guilty over my sass, but here’s the truth sometimes the sass is necessary, sometimes it’s not, and sometimes it just comes out.
What I’ve realized is that I can have some sassiness in my attitude and still want the best for others. It can come from protection, defending, or just because I’m tired…
Yet through all that I’m still called to love others. I may not always feel like praying or being “nice” to others, but I try.
Jesus tells us to love our neighbors like ourselves, I ask myself how can I do that? How can I think thoughts towards others that I would like others to think about me? How can I treat others like I would like to be treated? I’m not perfect and I fail many times, but at the back of my mind and heart is this scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
And I ask myself how can I be kind? Truly kind? And not just nice because like I said I’m not always nice.
If you struggle like I struggle with being nice and a Christian, we’re not alone. I’m sure there are many of us who struggle, and with Jesus as a perfect example of love it can be easy to feel conviction for our sass, but through it all we can learn to love by truly being kind to each other. We can hold boundaries while using our voice for speaking up, and staying silent when necessary. Let’s let God lead us on that.
Hope this message blessed you.
God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ.
