Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:7
Life is hard, and yeah that’s an understatement. We all have different levels of hardships that we face, but regardless at some point of our lives, if we live long enough we’ll face something that is very hard. That being said, most of time during those difficult things that we face, it’s hard to find hope and to keep going. We’ll look and grasp towards anything just to keep going. Whether that’s drugs, alcohol, relationships, family, money; that all depends on the individual and their own personal story and perspective. Yet, what I’ve learned is that God just want us to go to Him. Maybe sometimes for us it’ll be a mix of those vices, and God. I think most of the time it’s the latter. I love how scripture tells us that through knowing Him more and more and building our lives on Him then we will overflow with thankfulness. For me that means that we have to be able to walk away or end things in our lives that hinder us from growing deeper in the truth of Jesus. It’s not an overnight type of thing though. It’s an everyday practice of growing our roots. Living in a place like Maryland there are ALOT of trees. Many times we just pass them without a second thought, but if you really take the time to appreciate them, you might be able to recognize yourself in them. They were once planted, and over time with the help of a little mother nature grew into something big, mighty, and strong. With us, it’s kinda the same thing, except we have to choose what will help us grow and what won’t. Our roots aren’t gonna grow much in those vices or toxic behavior that we’re used to. Our roots grow the more we focus on Jesus and on allowing him to change our behavior. It’s a process. A process that we can’t give up on, and that we can’t judge others on as well. It’s a tough one, but it’s doable. So this week I’m wishing you a blessed week that’s filled with taking some focus off substances that feel good for a moment but don’t allow to grow for the long run, instead for you to focus towards the one that will help heal you and flourish you for eternity. Just God, just a little Jesus. Focus on Him.
Much love and God bless you. Be patient with yourself and others (at least try.)
